Womyn's music and music by women

Yes, Women CAN play guitar

I’ve been lazy about posting to the WMW blog lately, but I got inspired yesterday and then today hit on some things that just sucked me right in.

Yesterday on my other show (I Can Hear Music, Thursday 6-9am weft.org) I played a cut from International Blues Women – The Hopson Sessions by Heather Crosse called Why Does a Woman Need a Bass Guitar? I like guitar players and wandered around for awhile in my head and on the interwebz…

which lead to Laura Viers, who sings a song called Carol Kaye (who is the Queen of the Bass Guitar and member of the Wrecking Crew, one of the best groups of session musicians on the West Coast–or maybe anywhere.)

and I found this later

Also, I played Ace of Cups, who were one of the first, if not the first, all girl rock and roll bands (they started in 1967, before Fanny)

Then, somehow, this morning I discovered that Mick Foley is a big fan of Nita Strauss, who is a big fan of Mick Foley, so I checked out some of her music (besides her solo album, Controlled Chaos, which came out in November she is also a guitarist for Alice Cooper!) Here is Nita and Lzzy Hale, doing the entrance for Evolution 2018, the first ever all women WWE pay per view)

After I looked at Nita, I did a search and here is the top 10 list of female guitarists of all time. (There are many lists)

To conclude, here is a list of Top 10 female bass players of all time, which takes us back to Carol Kaye.
