Illinois 98th General Assembly

HOUSE RESOLUTION 421

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Illinois law granting women the right to vote for President of the United States and municipal officers; andWHEREAS, The law went into effect when it was signed by Illinois Governor Edward F. Dunne on June 26, 1913; andWHEREAS, The passage of the law made the State of Illinois the first state east of the Mississippi River to allow women to vote in presidential elections; and WHEREAS, Over 200,000 women in the State voted in the 1914 election, helping to pave the way for the passage of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920, which gave full suffrage to all women in the nation; and WHEREAS, The members of this body are proud of Illinois’ pioneering role in granting the women of the nation their hard-won rights; therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the State of Illinois and urge the citizens of this State to join us in celebrating this great milestone.

Zumba Fitness Party!

Women’s Resources Center | 703 S. Wright St, 2nd Floor Champaign, IL 61820
Weekly beginning 7/11/13! Join us at the Women’s Resources Center for a weekly zumba fitness party in a fun, casual, and non-judgmental environment! Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle! Zumba combines Latin and International music with a fun and effective workout system. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are all invited to join in! Free and open to the public! It’s FREE!!

2013 Champaign Urbana International Humanitarian Awards |CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Cities of Champaign and Urbana are accepting nominations for the 11th Annual Champaign Urbana International Humanitarian Awards.  Award recipients will be honoredThursday, September 26, 2013, at I Hotel and Conference Center, 1900 S. First Street, Champaign at 5:45 pm. The purpose of the International Humanitarian Awards is:

~to honor individuals whose work has contributed significantly to international understanding, cooperation, friendship and development;

~to recognize the richness of Champaign County’s international contributions, concerns and commitments in the following categories: agriculture, hospitality, humanitarian relief, human rights, research/education and trade and business; and

~to educate the public about the connections which exist between our local community and the global community.

I-Guide Program | University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Join the I-Guide Team!! The I-Guide program has been in existence since 1947 and is one of the longest lasting student run organizations on the Illinois campus. By volunteering to assist with the I-Guide program, individuals will join thousands of fellow Illini that have helped keep the tradition alive. As you considers this opportunity, please keep in mind the following:

All I-Guides will be provided a water bottle, I-Guide bag and a T-shirt to wear while volunteering

Individuals that volunteer for the entire day will be provided a dinner the night before and a continental breakfast and lunch the day of. All I-Guides  volunteers are eligible to be entered in to drawings for prizes I-Guides that volunteer for the entire day on both (August 20th and August 22nd) move-in days will receive a $25 gift card to the Illini Union Bookstore. For this upcoming year we are allowing student organizations to volunteer for the I-Guide Program as a group. By volunteering to assist with the I-Guide program, members of your organization will join thousands of fellow Illini that have helped keep the tradition alive. As your organization considers this opportunity, please keep in mind the following:

All I-Guides will be provided a water bottle and a T-shirt to wear while volunteering

Individuals that volunteer for the entire day will be provided a continental breakfast and lunch

Individuals that sign up as part of a group/organization may be assigned to work at different residence hall locations

All I-Guides  volunteers are eligible to be entered in to drawings for prizes
